Also setting an amazing record, this years camp had nearly 200 participants from 26 nations! A special touch from the IKAEF this year was the flags of each and every country represented being hung in the main training area. Upon looking out on this you truly got a sense of the world community There were so many people this year that outside hotels had to be booked to handle all of those who wanted to participate, and thanks to terrific logistics on the part of the IKAEF camp coordinator Julia Pattis everyone was included in this years camp.
Over this incredible week of training, camp participants were exposed to beginning and advanced concepts in the arts off Cinco Tero Eskirma, Doce Pares, Lapunti Arnis, Kali Sikaran, Jeet Kune Do Concepts, Inayan Eskrima, Kombatan, Warrior Eskrima, Dumog, Tupac Succi Silat and Silat Concepts, Panantukan, Sayoc Kali and Kabri Kabrong…with such a diverse training environment students and instructors alike were able to focus on there given arts and also explore a variety of other systems, concepts and teachers. In the classes that followed Jeff taught an amazing variety of subjects that included Kali Sikaran, Silat Concepts and Muay Thai. Additionally Jeff each day taught an aqua Kick Boxing class! This was an amazing training aid for those who were able to participate. As always Jeff taught in his own unique way!!! A lot of laughter and a lot of material! More so Jeff has the ability to communicate concepts that when applied properly give each student the ability to open new doors in their training. Mind you all of this while answering questions, taking care of details and making sure that everyone was having a Great time!!!

Matt is a wonderful teacher who brought his teaching skills and big smile along to share and push all of the students to their best…with Matt’s entertaining and energetic presentation of the art of Kabri Kabrong he ignited interest in this seldom seen but devastating art! Beware the Monkey because he’s coming to Get You!!! Guess you’ll have to join one of Matt’s seminars to understand, do so soon!
Pangulong Guro Jon Ward- San Jose, California
This year, as always was a great experience for me to share Inayan Eskrima with as many people as possible. The focus of our organization is to promote and share the art of Inayan Eskrima, and we definitely did that this year. With great participation in each class, we shared the arts of Inayan Serrada, Kadena De Mano, Sinawali, Espada y Daga and Larga Mano.
This year’s classes focused on drills and games found in the Inayan Martial Arts Association, including the rarely seen Dequerdas staff. From beginning student to Instructor levels, camp participants were introduced to this cornerstone of Inayan Eskrima training.
On a personal note I would like to Congratulate Inayan Martial Arts Association member Chris Parrott, who made the long trip from California, USA to attend his first IKAEF. Chris did an incredible job by attending every session (which can be challenging) and took every opportunity to learn from these amazing instructors…Great Job Chris!
Each and every member of this years camp truly stepped up to a new level in their training. To see so many people come together in friendship , while sweating with and pushing one another to there limits in training was truly remarkable. This atmosphere represents the best of what martial arts is about and we thank everyone for participating!

On a Sad Note…
On July 25th of this year Professor Randy Pausch passed away from Pancreatic Cancer. Professor Pausch was the author of the best selling book, The Last Lecture. The book is based on the last lecture he ever gave at Carnegie Mellon University where he was a Professor of Virtual Reality Theory. The actual lecture given that day was called “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dreams” The lecture can be found on you tube.
The reason I found it necessary to note his passing was how empowering his lecture and book are. In fact The Last Lecture in now required reading for all third level students and above in our association. As martial artists it is as important to learn as much about ourselves as it is the techniques we practice.
For those of you who have not read this book, I highly recommend this book as a pathway to make sure we stay on course in life. The courage that Professor Pausch demonstrated in his last months was and is truly a tribute to the courage and beauty of the human spirit.
Welcome to The Inayan Martial Arts Family!
